This April, past and present members of the Kaufman Lab gathered to celebrate the life and work of Jerry Kaufman at the American Planning Association National Planning Conference in Minneapolis. In the reception event titled, “Planning for Equitable Urban Agriculture: A celebration of Jerome L Kaufman’s legacy of research, teaching, and practice,” excerpts from a new book, Planning for Equitable Urban Agriculture in the United States: Future Directions for a New Ethic in City Building, were shared. Among the presenters was our own Alfonso Morales, founder of the Kaufman Lab.
The book, edited by Morales, along with Samina Raja and Alexandra Judelson from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Branden Born from the University of Washington, and Marcia Canton Campbell from Rooted in Madison, WI, features chapters written by various authors and scholars with topics ranging in planning, urban agriculture, and sustainability. As the Kaufman Lab celebrates 10 years of hard work in 2024, it was wonderful to be surrounded by so many individuals that have contributed to its success. Time was spent reflecting on the past decade while also looking ahead to the future. Laughs and smiles were shared throughout the night between both old friends and new.
